Bahong Sunflower Farm – La Trinidad’s next Ecotourism Destination
Bahong Sunflower Farm – New haven for ‘plantitos‘ and ‘pantitas‘
Bahong Sunflower Farm, La Trinidad, Benguet – As Barangay Bahong in La Trinidad, Benguet is considered to the “Rose Capital of the Philippines,” there is an additional attraction that locals and tourists alike can enjoy – sunflowers! Just a few minutes away from Halsema Highway (Baguio-Bontoc Road), the 8,000 Bahong Sunflower Farm will take you to another dimension.
I have always been a fan of “garden tourism” and this one is really one for the books! Not only that, the nearby Cordilleran mountains will serve as your background while exploring the farm. And because Panagbenga, or the annual Baguio Flower Festival in Baguio City is cancelled for the second year in a row, this is the closest we could get to experience.

8,000 Bahong Sunflower Farm: More than just the Sunflowers
As this farm is highly seasonal, the full blossom of the sunflowers varies. Sunflowers only bloom for a few days and will wither immediately after. Lucky you if you get to see and experience these sunflowers (and other plants) at their fullest! But fret not, there are a number of few, attractive plants in their greenhouses as well. These plants are also up for grabs and are for sale! (A haven for plantitos and plantitas, it is!)
While Benguet is gearing toward agri-tourism, it aims to showcase the rich flora of every municipality in the province. Being one of the places nearest Baguio City, it is more accessible and easier to explore whenever having a trip to the City of Pines.
What I am amazed about this garden, too, is that it offers a nice background of the Cordillera mountains! This nature trip is different but highly seasonal (did I say that again?) I also had the chance to talk to local farmers about how they get by while cultivating and propagating their plants, especially these sunflowers that are highly in demand in low-lying regions and provinces like Metro Manila.
How to get there
1. If you are coming from Baguio City, you can ride any jeepney bound for Tomay or Cruz in La Trinidad. Just tell the driver to drop you off at Alapang Junction or in Bahong Junction. Jeepney fare costs P 14.00 and travel time is around 20-30 minutes (depending on the traffic flow).
2. Upon arrival at either Alapang or Bahong Junction, ask the locals in the area where is the “garage” going to Bahong Sunflower Farm. The locals will immediately point it out to you and they know instantly where the Bahong Sunflower Farm is. Fare is usually between P 80-100 per vehicle (depending on your haggling skills). Travel time is around 10-15 minutes.
3. Upon arriving at the Barangay Bahong Multipurpose Building (Pink Building), you will see a signage pointing to the entrance of the Bahong Sunflower Farm.
4. At the entrance, you will have to pay an entrance fee of P 150 (inclusive of snacks after the tour and P 20 Barangay Environmental Fee). After which, you can now proceed to the gardens and explore the area.
5. The Bahong Sunflower Farm is open daily, from 0800 – 1700 H. If you are done visiting the farm, you can still ride / alight from the “garage cars” plying in the area. The fare costs around P 10-15, depending on the driver.
We’re born to travel!
