My SLU Lantern Parade 2022 Experience
After a 2-year hiatus caused by the pandemic, the SLU Lantern Parade comes back big to the streets of Baguio City to signify the start of the Christmas celebrations, alongside the lighting of the city’s Christmas Tree along Session Road.

The 14th annual SLU Lantern Parade
This year, the different schools, departments, and ancillaries of Saint Louis University comes back to the streets of Baguio City to once again celebrate the SLU Lantern Parade. As a tradition of the biggest university in Baguio, the different contingents showcased beautifully- and intricately-crafted lanterns of different shapes and sizes. This year’s edition highlighted the countries where the CICM (Saint Louis University‘s umbrella organization) is present to further Christian education to the world. From Japan, Philippines, Brazil, and the Dominican Republic, CICM’s mission of Christian education has been seen and felt through the years.
Lighting up Session Road and the start of the SLU Lantern Parade 2022
As the city’s tradition, the Christmas season is always welcome on December 1. After the lighting of the city’s Christmas Tree in Session Road, the SLU Lantern Parade usually comes after it. This crowd-drawer is one of the main highlights of Baguio City in welcoming the yuletide season. Various areas and buildings in Session Road, too, are being lit up to complete the Christmas vibe in the central business district. The Lantern Parade has also been a staple event ever since its inception and is one of the most sought-after events every December 1st.
Fortunately this year, I have witnessed once again the grandeur of this event since I was once also a participant who first started the SLU Lantern Parade (since I was a member of the SLU Marching Band). Every year, the lantern parade has got even better and bigger, especially when the parade was a competition between the different schools, departments, and ancillaries of Saint Louis University. For this year’s comeback, it is more of a solidarity Lantern Parade to show the resilience of the university amidst trying times.
