Canhugas Nature Park Travel Guide

Canhugas Nature Park Overview

Located on the eastern seaboard of Samar Island, Canhugas Nature Park is one of the more popular tourist destinations in the province of Eastern Samar. Located in the municipality of Hernani, this Nature Park’s name came from the word “hugas” as it was a place where fishermen wash their catch after a day’s work.

The GPS coordinates of Canhugas Nature Park are 11.32747॰ N, 125.62644॰ E. The nature park is known for its interesting limestone rock formations and the crashing waves creating a unique scene for visitors to see. The place is best seen during high tide or even during the monsoon season as the water and waves are bigger and the crashing of seawater to the rocks are more eye-catching.

When I went to Canhugas Nature Park, I was just alone because there was a storm within the area. Luckily, I got to see the place and flew my drone to capture its beauty before the heavy rain poured (so it is a sign for me to go back!) It is a simple park with the majority of the scene as interesting rock formations. There are huts and tables available for rent and there is a limited option for food and drinks. I haven’t asked if you can bring your own food when visiting.

The Philippines generally has 2 seasons, the Dry Season (December to May) and Wet Season (June to November). I suggest that you visit Canhugas Nature Park during summer time (generally from March to mid-May) as the skies are clearer, the weather is warmer and the waves are moderate. But if you want some adventure, you can visit during the southwest monsoon season (typically from June to October), where waves are bigger. The temperature range in Canhugas Nature Park is from 22.8 °C to 33.3 °C (73 °F to 92 °F).
