Awao Falls Monkayo Davao De Oro | Turista Boy

Davao De Oro – Things to see in the golden province!

What to see in Davao De Oro

The province of Davao De Oro is one of the lesser known provinces in the Davao Region due to its distance to major cities and to major airports such as the Davao International Airport (DVO) and Butuan-Bancasi Airport (BXU). Nevertheless, the province is one of the hidden gems of the region and it boasts some of the nicest tourist attractions in the region.

Here are some of some the tourist spots I have personally visited in Davao De Oro:

Monkayo

Awao Falls

Awao Falls in the town of Monkayo is a sight to behold in Davao De Oro. The huge curtain waterfall can be seen from afar and the water cascading through the rock wall is just relaxing to watch when you are nearby. There are also tables available to use (free of charge) while enjoying the scene from the waterfalls. There is only a minimal ₱ 30 entrance fee at the intersection going to the falls itself.

How to get to Awao Falls:

1) From Davao City

From Davao City, ride a bus at the Ecoland terminal bound for Butuan. Alight at Trento Integrated Bus Terminal (travel time is around 3.5 to 4 hours). From Trento, the travel time to Awao Falls is around 45 minutes to 1 hour. You can contact Kuya Rey Bidol at +63 912 727 1828 if you want a hassle-free trip to Awao falls. Tell him you were referred by Aldrick from Baguio.

2) From Butuan City

From Butuan City, ride a bus at the Butuan Integrated Bus Terminal (Langihan). Alight at Trento Integrated Bus Terminal (travel time is around 3 to 3.5 hours). From Trento, the travel time to Awao Falls is around 45 minutes to 1 hour.

The town of Maragusan is known as the “Summer Capital of Davao Region” due to its cool climate all year-round. A good place to witness the sea of clouds above Maragusan is the Calamba Farm Sea of Clouds. This park is situated atop a hill and has a generous view of the town proper below. If you are lucky enough, a “sea of clouds” will greet you in the early hours of the morning (ideally from 0530 H onwards). The travel time from Maragusan town proper to Calamba Farm is around 30 minutes via the motor tricycle (baobao). Fare can be negotiated at ₱ 200 per way.

The day tour entrance to Calamba Farm Sea of Clouds is at ₱ 60 (regular adult). If you are spending the night here, the entrance fee would be at ₱ 100 (overnight guests).

How to get to Calamba Farm Sea of Clouds:

1) From Nabunturan

From Nabunturan, ride a bus bound for Maragusan at the Nabunturan Integrated Terminal (travel time is roughly 2.5 hours). Alight at the Maragusan Public Terminal and look for baobaos outside the terminal. Tell the driver to bring you to Calamba Farm.
