Dinagyang 2024: Pagdayaw kay Señor Sto. Niño, Padayaw Sang Mga Ilonggo!

With the theme, “Pagdayaw kay Señor Sto. Niño, Padayaw Sang Mga Ilonggo!” – which figuratively sums up the Ilonggos’ unwavering faith and devotion to Sto. Niño and also a showcase of their ingenious tradition and talent through the Dinagyang Festival.

My Dinagyang 2024 Experience

For my second time celebrating Dinagyang, this year’s festival is grander and the tribes and contingents competing are way more competitive than before. The Kasadyahan sa Kabanwahanan and the Dinagyang Tribes Competition of Dinagyang 2024 is the culmination of the celebrations of the month-long festival in honor of the Sto. Niño.

I was still having goosebumps when I witnessed the festival and the street dance first-hand and it is a great way to start 2024. Here are the 8 different tribes competing for the Dinagyang Tribes Competition:

Contingent 1: TRIBU TAGA-BARYO (BARRIO OBRERO NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL)

On the other hands, there are 7 tribes competing for the ILOMINATION Night Street Dance Contest: Tribu Kahirup, Tribu Ilonggohanon, Tribu Buntag Tala, Tribu Manduriyaw, Tribu Iafa, Tribu Sagasa, and Tribu Sidlangan.

*Dinagyang comes from the Hiligaynon word “dagyang” which means merrymaking. This religious and cultural celebration is celebrated every 4th Sunday of January in Iloilo, just the week after the celebration of the Sinulog Festival. This grand festival pays homage to the Sto. Niño or the Child Jesus.*
